Thanks to a local club member, I finally have the recently announced new Cryptocoryne wendtii cultivar ‘Florida Sunset.’ That plant made its appearance at the last AGA’08 convention in Atlanta. Hearing the $120 price tag at the auction I decided to wait few months until the plant was available in local pet shops. Not sure if economy had a direct impact or market is already over-saturated but the price tag nowadays is very affordable ~$10. I noticed a lot of hobbyists are in the possession of it and they are growing it sub/emersed so we should be able to spread this plant around fairly quickly. Stay tune for an update !

I just got this one too. For me, all of the leaves melted, but I’m starting to get some new growth. I’ll post pictures as soon as I have some leaves of significance.

Looks good Jay!, mine are growing nicely submersed! Should look sweet within a couple months.

Kris,
Leaves are melting here as well but I’m noticing new growth already. Should be fairly easy to grow. Let’s see how complex will it be to flower.

What are the needed conditions to induce blooming in this variety and are seeds produced that would likely be viable?

Rich,
Are you asking in general or this specific cultivar ? If latter, then there is really no special setup or knowledge that I have. I’m going to approach it the same fashion as all other Cryptocoryne in MY setup.
